Ah, just take it for what it's worth. Who cares if it's "fixed?"

  2. NHL is fixed..... ha ha ha ha

typical commentary from folks who don't like hockey and will do and say anything to discount the sport.

My old man was a degenerate gambler who'd bet on anything, even stuff that he was convinced was fixed like jai alai and harness racing.

I'd ask him why he bet on this shit if it was rigged and he'd say, "Who cares if it's fixed? There's gotta be a winner."

As for the game, I don't think it was fixed. The draft that brought Crosby to Pittsburgh might have been though.

I didn't think the game itself was much, hockey wise, but it looked great on TV with the snow flying and the fans going crazy. I know a guy who worked it for CBC, I'll be interested in what it was like to be there.

Jeez, you could at least credit your sources :)

I played a lot of league games on outdoor rinks growin up and we always switched ends halfway through the third. Let me tell you, as a former goalie, playing in the snow sucks big time.

On a scale of 1-10 as a circus act, it was about a nine. As a hockey game, about a two.

Elliotte's piece on the old Aud was terrific.

And HC & I will be in Buffalo on Friday to see the Sens and Sabres.

First NHL outdoor game in America.

Remember Michigan and Michigan State played outdoors.

HB, I don't think it makes the game amatuerish by switching sides halfway through the third.

Look at it this way. Why change the makeup of the game (four periods vs. three quarters) just because it's outside? That could make it more exhibitionish then switching sides, since it would be played differently than any of the Penguins' other 81 games this year.

The U of Wisconsin also played an outdoor game at Lambeau field.

The CBC showed a clip of that game. It was against Ohio State.

I'm not really a hockey fan, but I enjoyed watching some of it -- when I wasn't watching bowl games.

One question: Would the fans in the stands be able to follow the puck from that far away?

I didn't mind playing in the snow. Snow like today was fine. We're all different I guess.

JR, once a goalie, always a goalie. Never a "former" goalie. ;)

Milbury is famous for climbing into the stands at MSG and beating a fan with his own shoe, which is classic, of course.

The other great Milbury story is he put his long-term wife on waivers (grown kids) and then married a former Rangers PR girl who was also the ex of a NY Post writer.

I'm a sucker for a sappy love story.

Milbury's departure from Boston College, where he spent a total of about 40 days and never coached a game, showed what a classless fraud he is.
