it's not coming from tax money , it's coming from the revenues generated by those people putting their hard earned quarters into a slot machine

Instead of sending their hard-earned money to the city fathers, who have done nothing to earn it.

Pennsylvania was NOT going to have casino gambling unless the money was going to build an arena in Pittsburgh? Damn generous of the voters in Philly to approve that, then. I don't live there, but I can smell the bullshit on this theory from a considerable distance.

That is where the support in Pittsburgh came up and how the issue got a positive push. You can make your assumptions all you like. They don't match the facts, but knock yourself out.

Oh yeah...now that I'm seeing actual announcements on reputable websites with Rendell and Ravenstahl confirming the deal....

    Fuck you, Kansas City! :)

What, you don't think, "Fuck you, Kansas City!" sums it up nicely? hehe

Hey, if you're a hockey fan and you're happy the team is staying, fine.

But this crap about the economic impact of a team consistently hasn't measured up. Cleveland built new venues for baseball, football and basketball and it has the highest poverty rate in the US.

Sports teams are a feelgood, especially for Rust Belt cities that have had industries abandon them. But a big boost to the economy? No. There are better ways for cities and states to spend the money.

I don't care about the economic impact, I'm not there anymore. I just care that they're staying, period.

Pro sports teams do legitimize cities and help them potentially attract and keep business. Too bad Cleveland hasn't figured out the magic potion yet.

You know what attracts and keeps business? Low taxes. Taxes are rarely low in cities where they're paying off sports venues.

If that magic potion works so well, why did so much industry disappear from Pittsburgh in the '70s, when the city was on top of the NFL and MLB world?
