Let's root for one of the south Florida papers to hire Jay Mariotti.

  3. The Chicago White Sox have announced a press conference where they will name Ryne Sandberg as their manager for 2012.

So now that Ozzie's out, he's really going to hate the media. If they don't cover him, they're going to cost his son a scholarship.

I don't know if it was considered a trade, but the Mariners received Randy Winn as compensation for letting Lou Piniella go to the then-Devil Rays.

    He gone.

Rays traded for Lou Pineilla a couple years ago, before they got serious.

Agree that it's time to rebuild ... next year, Konerko might be the only holdover left from the World Series team.

Whatever happens in Florida, Ozzie will be able to boast -- for quite a while -- that he was the only manager in the past 100 years to win a World Series in Chicago.

For the record, Bob Lemon was not traded to the Yankees in 1978. He had been fired by the White Sox a few weeks before the words "One's a born liar, and the other's convicted" were uttered by Billy Martin.

Charlie Finley traded Chuck Tanner to the Pirates for Manny Sanguillen ... and it worked out much better for the Pirates than the A's. Late 70s, IIRC.

The great fear now is that this opens the door for the Epic Asshole currently plying his so-called trade in St. Louis will shift his tack North, since Reinsdorf loves him so much.
