Our soft porn ... I mean ... outdoors columnist

  1. This was a line in one of his recent fishing columns.
You can't make this stuff up.

"I was left there wet, holding my rod in dismay."

We had a contest in the newsroom to come up with our own line to precede that gem.
    Good times.

(P.S. I believe someone added 'fishing' to 'rod' in the final copy. Buzzkill.)

I had that happen to me once. Once.

I love double entendres that fit. I read a gamer once where the visiting team had a quarterback named Johnson that was benched for the first half. The coach "inserted the big Johnson" at halftime.

If you write one and get called out on it, just turn it around on them and tell them they have a dirty mind. Works every time. ;D

Wang v. Bush was much funnier and got more thread mileage.

  9. One paper near here had a headline a couple years ago about beaver pond fishing, and it was "Ward, I think you were a little hard on the beaver last night."

Last fall we had a great hour after Casey Dick was named the starter QB by Houston Nutt against the South Carolina Gamecocks. Funs times.......Nutt goes with Dick against Cocks

On the bulletin board, we had a clip from the competition posted ... the headline was:

    Savour
    the flavour
    of your own
    breakfast sausage
