Oregonian announces 37 layoffs today

    Looks like 27 in the newsroom. 19 names have been revealed so far, including two sports deskers.

    That essentially means that there is no sports copy desk there any longer. There are a couple of news copy editors on that list, too, so I'm assuming that a universal desk is in the works.

    Very sad. For a long time, this was my goal destination. So many good people. I'm sorry to see hear this news.

    When a virtual monopoly market like Portland is enduring these cuts, places that still try to support two papers -- Dallas-Ft. Worth, Chicago, Phila., Mpls-St. Paul -- must be on the verge of flatlining.
