    Eight years later??

    If someone accuses you of crime last Friday, it's fairly easy to say, "I was at a movie with friends and here are six people who can vouch for my whereabouts."

    If someone accuses you of a crime on, say, Feb. 23, 2000, it makes it a hell of a lot tougher to defend oneself.

    According to Oregon laws: Statute of limitations on rape is anywhere from 6-12 years, depending on DNA evidence...

    In the vein of fairness, here is an interview with the editor, saying he plans to enter a not-guilty plea.

    Also, it seems he was a party to a number of lawsuits, including being sued by the city over outside business interests from the newspaper, according to this article. It seems he had these businesses while editor, but it's not entirely clear. It seems odd, for all we here about conflicts of interest, that he was allowed to have these other businesses or that Ottaway was unaware of those troubles.

    Paper has maybe 3,000 circulation. It's basically an edition of the Medford paper, and being about 10 miles away, it probably doesn't need an editor no matter how this legal case plays out.
