Maybe you should stop reading crazies and then bringing them here for discussion.

What's next? Only people born in America can become president?

Thirded, especially if that means no more threads about Whitlock.

Whenever some teabaggerite brings up the "flat tax," I come back with the flat-sum tax, or head tax.

They scream, "oh come on, you can't be serious."

Well, they all love the "flat tax" because it's "fair."

With a head tax, every living breathing human in the nation pays the same exact amount, down to the dime. No exemptions, no deductions, no credits, no nothing.

What could possibly be more fair than that?

I think this would be good advice for all of us to live by over the next several months. Every stupid thing written or said by columnists, bloggers, talk show hosts etc... doesn't need a thread. The Limbaugh thing is different, that was huge national news.

How many people here have heard of John T. Reed?

  10. I don't think it's that he "should" pay more taxes simply because he has made more money. I think, though, that if we need more tax money, it should come more from him than from you.

To explain the difference, take this example:

President Obama: "If you make more than $1 million a year, you should not pay less than 30 percent in taxes." - 2012 State of the Union Address

Alternative: "No one should be paying more than 30 percent in taxes because, if they are, the government is too big. People shouldn't be working from January 1 through April 10 just to give all their earnings to the federal government. At the same time, a 30 percent tax on someone making $1,000,000 is less of a burden than a 20 percent tax on someone making $50,000. If we actually need the money, the rich should be bearing a higher tax percentage because they can bear it most easily (and with better economic consequences — since the rich spend a lower percentage of their income than do the poor).

"Much will be required of the person entrusted with much, and still more will be demanded of the person entrusted with more." Luke 12:48.
