thanks to lisa olson for coming on here, (partially) straightening out her resignation from the daily news. very good of her to exonerate leon carter, who has unfairly taken many hits here, as sherrydarling pointed out.

that said, what spoke volumes was lisa did not also exonerate lupica. the best nickname put on mikey was assigned to him by another daily news columnist shortly after the yanks traded for randy johnson.

the columnist then began referring to mikey as, "the little unit."

priceless. ;D ;D ;D

A quick note from the other thread:

That reminds me of Mike Fisher's exit from the Fort Worth Star-Telegram several years ago. Fisher, who was the S-T's national NFL writer at the time, had been having various disagreements with the SE and AME/Sports for months, and when they decided who would be going to cover the Super Bowl, Fisher didn't make the list. So he storms into the AME's office and they have it out.

Finally, after a lengthy argument, she tells Fisher the paper can only send five writers and the ones going are the ones management decided will do the best job covering the game. He says, ``So you're telling me I'm not one of the five best people at this paper to cover the Super Bowl?'' She says yes. To which Fisher replies, ``Lady, I'm one of the five best people in the country to cover the Super Bowl.'' Then he turns and walks out, ending his tenure with the S-T.

Fisher told that story on the air on his radio show shortly afterward, when he was clearly still pissed. There used to be a link to that show on the Internet, but I don't think it exists anymore. Too bad. It was a classic. I listened to it several times, and when he delivered the money quote, in the requisite indignant tone, it never failed to crack me up.

Mike Fisher left the S-T but the S-T was happy to see him go. He had become an egotistical nightmare of an employee.

His departure is a good anecdote but comparing him to Lisa Olson is a bigger insult to Lisa than what happened to her in the Patriots locker room.

Just wanted to ask Sock Puppet to show me where I compared Fisher (and no, I'm not him, sorry) to Olson. As you said, it was an amusing anecdote, and that's all it was intended to be. The talk of whether a reporter would quit because of being left off the SB coverage team brought that story to mind.

As for Mr. Fisher's whereabouts, last I heard he was running something called dallasbasketball.com. don't know if he still does radio or any print work.
