I am so glad this came up. It didn't seem right to me, so I looked it up.

In finding out it was Parr, I also found out he re-recorded it in 2012 as "Tim Tebow's Fire." :) I'm not sure how SJ missed this one:

'... We're shopping in the human mall ...'

Well said, Robert. We are, indeed, shopping in the human mall.

    Pure poetry.

That is insane. I had no idea.
And here's an interview with Parr. He didn't do it to be funny:

In doing some Googlin', I found out an interesting bit of O-H-W trivia (US Billboard Top-40 style):

Who was the lead singer for five charting singles, one with each of five different bands/groups (and each were the band's lone chart hit)?

Hint: all were in the '70s

    John Parr?

    Nice.

Never heard of the dude in question, but was very familiar with three of the five songs.
Hint II: Four of the five were hits in 1970, two in July alone.

  7. You're right. I had to look it up. Weird Science peaked at No. 45.

@Fly: I was going to guess Mickey Thomas, but 1970 is too early for his career.

Just mentioning his name makes my face hurt ... ;)

Fuck, I see we are arguing over definitions today. Hell, if Weird Al spoofed you, that should qualify you for at least two.

I wouldn't say we're arguing over it. I think it has been a reasonable element of the discussion.
I hope no one think's I was trying to derail the conversation. I think the negative connotation of the term 'one-hit wonder' and how the term is accurately or inaccurately applied is meaningful and fun part of the discussion.

Rush had 24 gold records and 14 platinum records but no Bb top 40 hits.
Does that make them a no-hit wonder?

I don't know that BP rankings are relevant. I mean, Tom Sawyer became a hit and so did many other of their songs. It just took longer for their stuff to gain traction.

Single hit in the early 1970s by a woman who went on to become a regular player on a comedy variety show and the star of a B level sitcom.
