On this day in 1957, the most important meeting in the history of music occurred

I think it's fair to say if the Beatles hadn't come along there would never have been a British Invasion. Every band that came after them - Who, Floyd, Zeppelin, Animals and especially the Stones, owed them a huge debt.

Minor quibble, but John Lennon was a solo artist and it was the 70s when he wrote Imagine and Give Peace a Chance.

Floyd was making LSD-driven music at the same time. McCartney went to many of their shows to see what they were all about. Wouldn't be surprised if he incorporated any of their stuff into SPLHCB record. Because of Floyd, I believe, McCartney was more apt to try hallucenagenics (sp?).

And the Beatles were named in honour of Buddy Holly's band, The Crickets.

Another good point from one of us old enough to remember the Crickets.

In the "you had to be there" department, my recollection is the Beatles drove the popular music bus for most the 60's.

The only other band in terms of overall popularity were the Stones. People tended to fall into two camps: McCartney/Lennon or Jagger.

No matter what other bands you loved, it always come down to: Stones or Beatles?

Just like the camp that says you're either Beatles or Elvis?

    I like both.

Yeah, boots. Elvis wrote a whole lot of his songs.

Actually, he seemed a bit of a homophobe, but he was friends with Liberace.

    riddle me that.

And what was Liberace's claim to fame?
