OK, are there non-NFL lions that are unaccounted for?

Woman thinks a lion killed her horse in north Georgia. Don't know if she can spell academics or not. [/crossthread]

Unpossible. Lions can't hit that hard.

I can drive by the enclosure at the University of North Alabama tomorrow and see if they're still there.

I would think the local paper would mention it if they weren't.

Couldn't it have been a large cougar? They look a bit like lions, and I think they exist in Florida. Why not Georgia?

Male cougars can exceed 250 pounds. It's very likely this is a very large cougar, although they've been hunted to extinction in the eastern U.S. I guess it's possible they've moved back into the area.

Here come the cougar jokes ....

Why couldn't it be a mountain lion?

A cougar is a mountain lion, right?

Mountain lion, cougar, puma - they're all the same thing.

Catamount and panther too, I think.

I think their presence is underreported in the East. They've been slowly repopulating there, I believe. I've seen them near my cousin's house in upstate New York. In fact, we were damn lucky not to get mauled by one after we came upon its den (and saw its cubs as well) while hiking near his house.

I was thinking more along the lines of Linda Hogan.
