From the Bob Dutton in the KC Star:

Looks like if Moore takes the job we'll be happy.

Not gonna happen, because Butt-Buddy Selig is perfectly fine with the fold-the-tents-and-punt strategy for "small-market" franchises. Bud did it himself for years with the Brewers. Spew a load of cheeze whizz in spring training, then if Mother's Day arrives and you're five games out of the lead, pull the plug, slash payroll, give up on the season and spend the rest of the season mewling and sniveling about all the "revenue handicaps" you're working under. Repeat again and again about how a new stadium could be the solution to all your problems. Repeat again and again and again. Threaten every now and then to pull the team out of town. Repeat as long as it takes to get your new stadium.

Kaufman Stadium is now 32 years old -- forget renovations. They'll want a brand new park, built from the ground up, within five years. Guarangoddamntee it.

All I know is, Royals are on a two-game losing streak. They're more than capable of three 10-game losing skids in three months. I know they have it in them.

You know what would be cool? Losing their 22nd game in a row ... on the last day of the season ... for loss No. 121.

You probably never thought Tampa Bay -- with its lack of support for the Devil Rays -- would rank No. 2 in NHL attendance this season. And for as bad the Bruins and Penguins were, they drew more than the Hurricanes, Predators, Devils and Ducks per game this season. So did Columbus.

In fact, the bottom three teams in attendance were the Islanders (12,609), Blackhawks (13,318) and Caps (13,905) -- all in very large markets. Market size doesn't always dictate attendance.

    You're right.

The three laggards are teams which have seen much better days, whose fans know that management is trying to
    have it both ways.
