Charlotte as a city has not been kind to pro athletes, especially Panthers.
A lot of effed up stuff has happened to them.

Panthers saying now he has two transverse fractures in his back (basically the same injury Tony Romo has).

Whether or not that ends his season is unknown, but I assume he'll at least try to play this week.

Bryce Petty had that also. Cost Baylor a shot at NTL Championship

Romo missed one game this season because of that injury. So Newton won't play this week. If the Panthers are eliminated from the NFC South race this week, then it's likely the Panthers won't want Newton playing another game, given all the other injuries he's dealt with.

The Panthers are a half a game out with three to play. I don't think its possible they are eliminated this week.

Two "transverse process" fractures in his lower back.

Find it really unlikely that he can play this week. He'll feel this one in the morning. Won't be the least bit surprised if he's shut down for the year. Glad he's OK.

Charlotte PD has released a video of Cam Newton heading west
    on Church prior to accident.

So you're saying he's not as tough as Romo?

More that the Panthers won't want to take any unnecessary risk with a young-ish QB. But with a playoff spot still in play, they might. And I think he's going have more issues than just the back after a crash like that.
