Obama's Nobel Prize...

... didn't quite have the effect the committee that awarded it intended, says the then-committee secretary:

I thought the Nobel committee only gave out awards on merit.

 

A high school homecoming election has more honesty.

 

I judge the Obama presidency favorably given the circumstances he was placed in and think he'll become more and more respected as time goes on, but I still found the Nobel Prize absurd. I still do.

 

So did Obama.

 

The world was really, really pissed at President Cheney and his youthful ward George.

 

I thought it was a blatant attempt to influence U.S. government and foreign policy. To this day, I wish Obama had flatly refused to accept it. That would have been the far more respectable thing to do. And he still had 4 to 8 years ahead of him to actually earn the award, like Carter did with Egypt and Israel. The Nobel committee really cheapened the award with that anti-Bush statement. I remember the Nobel with every Obama drone strike and laugh.

 

They should have given it to Bill Clinton's dick.
