Obama serves notice: He won't let the Republicans swift-boat him

  1. This guy is absolutely correct:

  2. Unless, of course, you count the Cult Of Reagan, which apparently eluded Mr. Baker.

  3. One cult matched against eight or 10 other cults. Not even the media could formulate a Cult of Carter in 1980.

Good to see Fox News has carried itself over the Atlantic to another of Murdoch's outlets.

So Obama's going to find him and kill him, right? Devote all the resources the entire country wants in Afghanistan, immediately, right?

He should win. He has the personality and the likability that the last two democratic candidates have sorely lacked.

What remains to be seen is how many Americans will vote for McCain because Obama is African-American. I think the percentage is higher than people think, especially down south, which Obama will need to win to get to the White House.

This should be the most interesting election of most of our lifetimes...

Geoffrey Baker is Rip Van Winkle. He slept through an entire administration.

As they say in Newfoundland, codswallop.

  8. Eight or 10 others?
    That would be who, exactly?
Mr. Baker himself admits it wasn't true of Mondale, Kerry, or Gore.
Mr. Baker doesn't know dick about the RFK campaign, which is fairly plain. It was enormously hard-fought, and wouldn't have been a sure thing even if he'd walked out of the kitchen alive. A good portion of the press was lined up with McCarthy, and the old guard was behind Humphrey, and some of the major editorial boards were starting the move toward Nixon. I will admit that people because very fond of RFK after he got shot.
    And this sentence:
"Never in any of the chapters of this hagiography does a Republican, a conservative, appear in a remotely similar light."

is rendered bullshit by the Cult of Reagan, and by the ongoing lovefest abooard the Straight Talk Express, not to mention the endless encomiums to George W. Bush -- in book form by Peggy Noonan, David Frum, and John Podhoretz, to name three. And let us not forget the praise of President Flight Suit's "package" on Mission Accomplished day -- in the golden days before his cock-ups became too overwhelming to ignore.

  9. Yes, JR, that describes your post (and most of your posts) pretty succinctly.

While I can't predict the future, I can tell you that his plan is to shift troops from Iraq to Afghanistan, particularly where it borders Pakistan.

Diverting resources from Iraq to Afghanistan would be a good start...

Let's just pause to note that, in using the phrase "swift-boat," you overlook the fact that John F-ing Kerry has never been able to refute the core allegations of his swifty mates.

He keeps saying he will, he just never seems to get around to it.

    Carry on, though.
