Yeah, that's a fair point. But when it's a public person, such as the mayor of Paris, I would think that would be easy to confirm. Call the mayor's office and find out if he submitted a letter.

For Joe Blow living on Evergreen Terrace, though, you're right, it's almost impossible to confirm an email. "Please list your daytime phone number" doesn't work because the fake letter writer will just include their own number.

 

C'mon, you know how tough it is to find a phone number for the Paris mayor's office?

 

Don't you just have to add a lot hunh-hunhs and oui-ouis to everything you say?

Call and ask for the mayor.
