Fostoria=shithole. I used to have to drive through it on assignemnts and on my way home. Yuck. It's like eastern Kentucky without the mountains, but just as much meth.

A response from NPR on the photos used on the website for this story.

NPR comes off looking incredibly out-of-touch on this, IMO
". . .both of whom are overweight by American standards"??

Personally, I'd rather make fun of stupid GM executives or witless government bureaucrats than overweight, poor people.

You guys have a blast, though.

It's little remarks like that that will get you un-invited to this weekend's Scoff at the Stupid and Make Fun of Meth Mouth Party at my place this weekend. I guess you're still invited, but consider your invitation probationary at this point.

I find humor in the juxtoposition of their obesity and their "plight" to eat. As well as NPR's ultra-pc stance with stuff like "obese by America's standards" and hand-wringing over the action of the people in the pictures:
"Two people standing side by side is not representative of the kind of journalism that one expects from NPR," said Irby. "There is likely a lack of sophistication among the producers and editors involved in visual decisions."

If that makes me a bad person, so be it.

Poin, I wasn't taking a shot at you.

As for NPR's response, it was predictably self-flagellatory in tone, but the photo was indeed a pretty crappy one.

Oh I know, I was responding to Ace.

btw, what could the women have been doing to constitute a "good" photo?
