    That's because it's news.

IW seemed surprised that it went out on news Twitter feed. I was just pointing out that it is being handled here as news, also.

We have all sorts of stupid threads on here these days. But even that's different than AP's main account sending out a BREAKING alert about a celebrity divorce.

It IS news, though. It will easily draw more eyeballs than almost anything else that happens today.

We can't control what people are interested in.

This one isn't all that bothersome as news or as a commentary on the culture. At least it's two people that we cared about initially because of their work. It isn't the vapid reality-show echo chamber.

Joe DiMaggio and Marilyn Monroe were a big deal too.

Yeah, but were people tweeting about them? Big difference.

For a slight thread tangent, no one today approaches the celebrity that was Marilyn Monroe in 1954 (wed to Joe D.) And in 1954, though he was retired for 3 years already, DiMaggio was huge. He was bigger than any athlete in America until Ali (post-Ali-Frazier I).

Would Aniston still care about this 12 years later?
