No classes before 8:30 a.m. at California HS: Jeff Spicoli approves

    I was wrong, at least partially so. Based on that article, it was both things happening at once. There were breaks for the harvest in communities with more farmers and breaks for the summer heat in urban areas, though that was more about the people with the means to take vacation wanting to get away.

    One point still stands. We don't need breaks for farmers or for summer heat now. Also, summer break was never really there for academic reasons.

    I still can’t get up and out of the house before 9:30.

    I assume kids will adjust and will just stay up later. Instead of going to sleep at 12, they’ll now go to sleep at 2.

    Has this been brought up at all?

    You would rather have a kid get on the bus in the dark rather than get off it in the dark.

    Students with long bus rides will get off in the dark if you start too late.

    The irresponsible ones are already going to sleep at 2 a.m. The ones who stay up late because they can't fall asleep at 11 will take advantage of the extra rest.
