With Orton you get pummeled for four quarters; with Grossman, you get knocked out cold. Grossman is at his worst under pressure, so putting him in when a comeback is needed is a disaster waiting to happen.

Grossman does seem to be better suited to be a hot hand off the bench a la Don Strock.

When was the last time a team used the "hot handed backup" concept? Nothing is coming to mind. Maybe that's just me, but I cannot think of a recent example.

Where's Jeff Garcia when you need him?
Orton = fail, Grossman = fail. Is it really that hard for the Bears to figure out?

That's not under pressure - the game is lost anyway.

    That's why I said you'd need a creative coach - a gutsy one too.

I know Garcia's still with Tampa, but if any team should pull the trigger for him, it's the Bears

I'm not ready to give up on Orton yet. This is really his first year as the starter. In '05, they had him so handcuffed, for good reason, that he didn't develop at all. The one thing he has been good at is limiting turnovers; that was Grossman's Achilles' heel, and it cost the Bears plenty of games. In the first half last week, Orton was reading defenses and adjusting well. He didn't do that in the second half, but I'll give him some more time before I write him off. If not for Greg Olsen, he'd be 2-0 with no interceptions so far this season.

OK, Guy, I'm sure Lovie will get right on the team's creative "Quarterback strategy when the game is lost" plan.

Never said he would, just that he should.

Didn't Dan Reeves try and fail miserably at that in the early 90s?

Yes, when Elway was injured, he alternated QBs. There's a reason that only works for middling college teams (or Florida). I think it was Tommy Maddox and Shawn Moore.
