Didn't Bum Phillips try it when he was with the Saints?

Probably an attempt to get Guido Merkins some playing time.

The Ron Meyer/Eric Dickerson Colts had a wishbone package they weren't afraid to use.

Who was the QB the Patriots had running the option? Grogan?

That would make sense. Grogan was a good runner.

I just can't see many NFL teams being willing to risk their quarterback by having him run the option regularly. Otherwise, you would have seen McNabb do it a lot earlier in his career. He was a tremendous runnning and passing threat at Syracuse.

How many NFL quarterbacks would even be good at it?

That and how fast will defenses be able to adjust. Plus, you leave your QB in some VERY compromising positions and could get him hurt pretty quickly.

DEs and OLBs are just too fast in the pros for it to work regularly from what I have heard.

I would have a WR and a QB switch during some old-timey Redskin-like motion, and have the WR run the play with the tailback.

Actually, bring back the I-formation and fake to the fullback then run the play.

That is the other problem. So few fullbacks are actually a threat to run any more, and option is a lot easier to defend without the threat of the dive play.

This. In the time it takes the QB to make the decision to run or pitch, the defenses have already closed all the gaps. Way, way too big and fast.

The only way it would work is if the field were significantly wider.

And also, in college the hash-marks are wider (though narrower than they used to be). When you've got that wide side of the field to defend, it makes things a little more difficult.

    Young was incredible last night.

I have a feeling Titans will finish with a winning record this season.
