Ah, oop is starting a fight on a thread that Dick created as an olive branch and a way to laugh.

    How very meta.

What Moddy said was don't start Hall of Fame threads for every slapdick who has a couple of good seasons or a great start to a three-year old career - that leads to the comedian wannabes on here starting them just to try and be funny.

Chris Carpenter is done after a fairly distinguished career. It is a legitimate thread with an easy answer. He's not a Hall of Famer. Hall of Pretty Good, sure.

I don't think there is a single active player in baseball right now who would produce a solid HOF debate, and I mean one where there's anything close to a 50-50 or even a 75-25 percent disagreement on whether he should be in or not, unless it's because of PED use.

Scott Rolen and Johan Santana, maybe?

I think the board would agree that Johnny Damon is out. Maybe not unanimous, but more than your 75-25 standard. Same with Carlos Beltran, Andruw Jones and Todd Helton.

The only debate on Jeter is whether he will become the first unanimous HOF selection. - Manky
