Newspapers are a business, not a library

This used to be somewhat true. But, yeah, such a naive way of thinking.

Yeah you were naive. Newspapers traditionally have been run by either very pompous (for the most part), enormously wealthy bullies out to make every possible buck and pay notoriously low wages to staff or large companies which have one goal, a very odd goal: to make sure those at the top have great vacation homes and mansions and boats and snowmobiles and all the toys they need to enjoy life. Good work has been done by newspapers, sure, thanks to the little folk, the men and women who have it in their blood and are willing to give their all every day for miniscule wages and even illegal tactics: agreeing to work 60 hours and get paid 40.

News organizations benefit from the news hypercycle; the print product not so much. Print circulation keeps dropping, while online is growing. But the geniuses with MBAs have no idea how to turn a profit from online.

The bloodletting so far in 2018 makes 2008 look positively balmy.

Dubya was president in 2008. I remember that because was in all the papers.

No charge. But you should have to write a board correction.

Naaaaaa, not really. I actually wondered if anyone would catch it when I wrote it. Most people don't realize he didn't take office until 2009. Still, glad you set the record straight on my President.

Yes, I'd like to see us do a better job profiting from our online presence.
