I was hoping this thread would elicit at least one quality Newfoundland anecdote from the board and I was not disappointed. Thanks, Flash.

    Question: "Now, my ducky..."?

Yup ... 'my ducky' is a popular term of endearment. As is 'malove.'

A very long time ago, I had a girlfriend from Lancashire, England who called me "duck" and "ducks." That was just cute as hell.

And, thus, the genus of 'my ducky.'

'Newfie' is really a mish-mash of English and Irish. And those folks from the Northern Pen, who are descendant of Vikings? Fuck me, I don't even try to understand them.

But sidebar: I always giggle a little when a Canadian kid gets named an all-American.
