New York Times sports reporting

    For the Times, that's not so many. We had 20 at the Boston Herald in the late '90s.

    Right--nearly two decades ago! Not in the business, but I'd imagine the Times must have one of the largest sports staffs in the country these days, even with "only" 20 reporters.

    Quick byline count of today's Herald site shows 15 names. So I stand by my previous statement.

    Read that. Interesting.

    Why grand slam tennis gets so exhaustive coverage from NYT is interesting to me. that choice can't be anything but an organizational preference. There's no particular justification for it

    I rarely see the Times, but the Sports section was better than I expected the last 2-3 times. However, I doubt too many people outside New York go surfing for sports coverage online through the Times.
