HUGE difference. The prospects are pros, and even the college/HS kids you might track for a year or so are going pro. You're not reading BA praying and hoping Bryce Harper goes to your school. You might hope he goes to your favorite team but you're more likely interested in figuring out a career path. Will Team A rush him? Maybe Team B would be a better long-term home.

There's nothing pathetic about reading coverage of baseball prospects and little pathetic about providing coverage of it (some of it is overboard). Almost about college recruiting is pathetic (edited b/c there are about a handful of really good writers out there who do this for a living), ESPECIALLY the consumption of it by so-called adults.

I really am behind that, especially the last sentence. I would not be surprised if there are hordes of fans who hold gatherings similar to prayer meetings, except they wave the Rivals crib sheet.

Doubtful. Most of the discussion appears to take place on either the recruiting sites' message board or in other similar discussion forums.

Only if by "similar" you mean any discussion forum that discusses a team. That is the problem in a nutshell. There are people who spend way more time dreaming about which recruits will come than they do following the sport.

According to APSE twitter The Omaha World-Herald has struck a similar deal.

You can expect at least one more such partnership in SEC country soon. I'll be very curious to see how these partnerships work out. Early reviews in Austin and Knoxville have been good.
