NCAA Bans Wedge Blocks & Eye Black Messages Starting in 2010

    Why aren't they doing anything similar for basketball when a guy dunks and slams his chest at the crowd or runs down the court with his arms outstretched?

    That's taunting or "bringing attention to yourself" just like in football when a guy does it in the end zone.

    If this were in effect when Georgia stampeded the end zone against Florida, the penalty yards would have been about as long as Sherman's March to the Sea.

    Uh, Georgia was flagged for the end zone stomp under the current rules. They probably kicked off from the 15 or the 7.5.

    Under the new rule they still wouldn't lose the touchdown because the action came after the score.

    The problem isn't the spirit of the rule - you won't find many people in favor of celebrations like you see in Any Given Sunday.

    The problem is it gives inept refs another way to torpedo a game through what's sure to be a wide interpretation of taunting. At least when it was a 15-yard penalty assessed on the kickoff, it (usually) didn't screw things up too badly.
