This is an awesome list. And I've been in all of them except Dayton.

Seriously, I'd recommend all the Pacific Northwest cities people have mentioned ... and add Missoula, Mont., if it hasn't been mentioned yet. Try to get there in the fall, for the beautiful season and Grizz football.

And Dick, knowing you're a White Sox fan, at some point make a spring training trip to the Phoenix area. Best time of the year to visit there ... all the outdoor activities are available because it's not crazy hot yet, and there's so many cool places to eat and drink after the baseball games.

Butterfly Grove in Pismo is a great way to burn an hour or two.

Also, head south a few more minutes to Santa Maria and have yourself some tri-tip barbecue.

I'll second the comment about KC being very underrated.

Lake Tahoe also a great pick.

My list (besides the obvious of New York and SF)....
    Vegas
    Seattle
    Minneapolis
    Boston (maybe also obvious)
    San Diego

Monterey is very cool. Carmel is beautiful, but the pretention level is through the roof.

Whole Central Coast region of California is awesome.
