While I wouldn't have minded another batch of commercial tunes like "Kids," I give MGMT credit for trying something different. Instead of electronic dance/pop, the new album is somewhat experimental, and probably more for an "album person" than the type who buys select songs off iTunes.

Anyway, after ten or so listens, I think it blows Oracular Spectacular out of the water.

For those who haven't heard it, here is the title track from the forthcoming album by The Gaslight Anthem, American Slang, due in mid-June. Sounds like it would fit in quite nicely on The '59 Sound which ain't a bad thing if you ask me.

The new Josh Ritter album ("So Runs the World Away") is streaming on NPR and although it doesn't rock as much as his last album (Historical Conquests of) it's still great stuff:

Good stuff. Thanks for the link, Huggy -- checked out some of their other songs, too. Good, straightforward guitar songs.

Almost as good as Styx! ;) [/crossthreading]

And it's not just Ritter and the Hold Steady ... there's a ton of great indie/alternative stuff due out this month:

    May 4
New Pornographers (Been waiting a while for this)
    Broken Social Scene
Paul Weller (getting the GREAT reviews in the UK)

    May 11
    The National (see New Pornographers)
The Dead Weather (Jack White side project)
    Keane
    Japandroids (underrated rockers)

    May 18
    Black Keys (fuck yeah)
    LCD Soundsystem
Band of Horses (personally, I don't care for them)

I've been listening to new LCD Soundsystem stuff for the last couple of weeks. I'm still waiting for an Arcade Fire drop date.

I'm downloading the New Pornographers' album right now. Can't wait to listen.

    Next month, new Pernice Brothers!

Already sent in my pre-order for Pernice, along with the John Cunningham album Ashmont is releasing the same day.

June 15th is going to be huge for me -- new releases from the Pernice Brothers, Crowded House, the Gaslight Anthem, and Devo.
