We are not reopening on May 1. Many of the shutdown orders go until at least the week past that. We will not reopen on Memorial Day. If all goes well, limited reopening in mid-June. Before that means only all will go straight to hell and we will have a lockdown election day and civil war.

This week will tell us a lot. Next week more.

I would love to be out in June by a pool. I think that’s optimistic. I know this bastard might come back again until we get a vaccine.

It's not going to be even across the nation. New York, which is getting hammered now, will likely be among the first to emerge locally. However, Texas, where it's just getting started and where lockdowns are sporadic (county-by-county and even city-by-city) and with differing degrees of enforcement, will be dealing with this well into the summer.

Agreed. We'll have to move past the doom aesthetic, though.

    There are signs that's happening.

Using his office for personal gain? Meh, the deplorables will still vote for him.

Another 1,300 deaths today. About to go over 11,000.

The entire Swine Flue total, which covered a full calendar year, was at 12,469. We'll passed that with almost 10 months to spare

From a major investment firm (Morgan Stanley):

Dr. Scott Gottlieb, the former commissioner of the FDA, proposed that the US needs a National Sentinel Surveillance System to track and actively monitor COVID-19 cases before we are able to really relax social distancing measures. This system could be modeled off our current ILINet, which is designed to track the spread of influenza across the country. This would require significant investment in the public-health infrastructure to monitor testing (for the presence of the virus and immunity) with same-day point-of-care diagnostic testing. Dr. Gottlieb argues that states can start reducing social distancing measures when there is a sustained reduction in cases for at least 14 days. Overall, we believe the US has to invest in a centralized surveillance system along with increasing testing capacity before states can confidently relax social distancing measures.

So the big question thus becomes: Will Trump and his klan be willing to go for it? Or is he going to let this thing play out, let tens of thousands of blue state residents die and then come to the rescue just in time to hold the total death count to 125,000 or so?
Will they act? Or will they be too busy playing homage to traitors during Confederate Heritage Month in Mississippi?

Which is great and all, but until we get the tests and the tests get used and results are reached and tabulated you can't do any of it.
