Moving, movers, etc.

I moved cross-country a while back and (gasp) my new shop picked up the tab for the move. Even took care of tipping them, or so the movers assured me.

When they boxed up my old place, I gave 'em all the Dasani they wanted.

But when the crew arrived to bring my stuff to my new house, they didn't get shit -- mainly because they carried my washing machine into the fucking wall, tearing a foot-long gash into my nice new hallway.

Fortunately, I filed a complaint and the company sent out a guy to repair my wall.

But, yeah, if they do a good job, $20 per man is pretty much industry standard, I think.

I ended up not tipping, for reasons I won't explain here.

It was speedy, though, which was nice.

After the blowjobs, they wouldn't take your money?

We'd take the blowjobs and your money.

    Another dumb question:

Do I need to to schedule a time to check out of my apartment?

If your lease requires a checkout to get your deposit back, yes.

But I only ever had to do that in the dorms...

I don't recall my lease saying anything about that. I'd look at it, but I'm pretty sure it's in my storage unit now.

The days of checking out of dorms ... :D On our latest move, which the company paid for, I called the moving company to see about tipping. They checked, and the consensus was no. But since the group of guys (there were five over the course of three crazy days) worked pretty hard, I gave the supervisor $120 to split as he saw fit.

I'm sure the supervisor enjoyed his $120.

I feel bad for making fun of people who used moving services. These last two days have been more difficult than I imagined. It doesn't seem like you have a lot of shit until you have to move every bit of it out of a place.
