"True Grit" is the one that leaps to mind right away. Remake was far superior.

"Manchurian Candidate" was a solid effort.

    Some others:

    "Ocean's 11"
    "Cape Fear"
    "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory"
    "Scarface"
    "Little Shop of Horrors"
    "The Fly"

Also a bunch that were remakes of foreign movies like "Let Me In," "The Ring" and "The Departed."

Dark Shadows is a remake of a television show.

Prometheus was not an Alien movie per se, just set in the same universe.

I still think there is a good Godzilla movie to be made, though it could be argued that Cloverfield was that movie.

Not that they should be, but wont be surprised to see remakes of The Goonies and Back to the Future (a reboot here could work, with Marty's kid).

And of the seven "original ideas" three are adaptations of books. Leaving Ted, Brave, Safe House and Magic Mike.

  7. Magic Mike was ripped off from my unpublished autobiography - except many things were different

    Yet, no Police Academy remakes.

Let me guess - the abs were changed to protect the guilty.

I loved the 'True Grit' remake. I don't know if it was better. Both were great.
I thought 'The Manchurian Candidate' remake was terrible.

'Cape Fear' remake was good, but not better than the original.
I did not like the 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' remake.
I've never seen the original 'Ocean's 11,' 'Scarface' or 'Little Shop of Horrors.'

I love the original 'Fly,' but alos loved the remake.

    I would go see that.

  12. I would also go to see Barney Miller - The Movie if it had Dave Attell in the title role
