I read somewhere recently that it is now believed Van Gogh didn't cut off his ear. It was done by Gaughan (maybe?) or another famous artist with whom he roomed during a drunken quarrel.

 

Perhaps we should start a thread on most successful person who didn't turn weird?

 

I've sometimes thought through the years that Johnny Depp has been fitting himself into this category more and more, although not yet to a truly weird extent.

And lately, Joaquin Phoenix, too.

I would say Johnny Depp is more just unique or eccentric, but not downright weird.

I think the weirdness crown will always be Howard Hughes. Dear god, there weren't enough psychopathic drugs in the world to cure him.
