I'll admit to being ignorant about Nascar. I'm not sure which team driver is the most dominant, so I thought I'd thow Gordon up there. If posters want me to change it to Johnson or Stewart, I will.

Peyton Manning seems like a glaring omission. Quarterbacks dictate more of a game's outcome than running backs.

    Ditto.

Last night's performance in the desert certainly didn't hurt, either. Wow.

  4. How does he qualify as dominant? He only has 10 more points than Ovechkin.

Tricky question, this one. Is mere individual excellence enough, or must it also be translated into titles (the old Marino/Montana paradox)?
In terms of both statistical excellence AND a demonstrable role in helping his team win consistently, there's one glaring omission from this list, the guy who would get my vote.
    Mariano Rivera.

Any reason why Steve Nash isn't on the list?

Yes, he's Canadian, as are the current/defending MVPS in the NHL and MBL's AL.

Sucks to be Canadian these days.

    Let's see, right now:

    Justin Morneau - AL MVP
Steve Nash - two-time defending NBA MVP
Joe Thornton - current NHL MVP

    Last five years:

Eric Gagne - 2003 Cy Young Winner
Mike Weir - 2003 Masters champ

    Just for kicks:
Ryan Gosling - 2007 Oscar nominee for Best Actor

    Canada's population: 32,960,359 (roughly)
    America's population: 298,535,107 (roughly 10 times that of Canada's)
