I had no TV, computer or snacks in my room, and when I got in trouble, my parents came in and took my stereo and books too. Course they were permissive because they didn't beat me.

I remember getting spanked once or twice, but it was the fear of letting my parents down that kept me in line. The fear of disappointing them hurt worse than any spanking could.

 

And not spanking does not equal permissivness or bad parenting.

 

It's not an absolute, But I -- and apparently, others -- have seen the connection a few too many times.

 

And I've seen plenty of people who spanked who were shitty parents, but hey, you're right, I'm wrong. Whatever.
