    Job Details

    The Managing Producer is responsible for the development and distribution of content across various platforms, including print, web, mobile and social media for the statewide sports (Lions, Tigers, Wolverines, Red Wings, Spartans, Pistons reporters), news and entertainment team. This position will manage day-to-day story and photo budgeting systems, keep on top of staff schedules; assist Manager in day-to-day communication with reporters, including story planning, spot editing and feedback; manage functional relationships with freelancers; manage to performance-based metrics for team and individual employees; and will be responsible to assume management responsibilities when needed.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Serve as production liaison between the continuous digital operation and print hub.
    • Provide day-to-day communication with reporters, including story planning, spot story editing, constructive feedback, etc.
    • Maintain and manage day-to-day story and photo budgeting system, in coordination with demands of print and web production teams.
    • Coordinate scheduling system and communicate resource issues to Manager.
    • Communicate and coordinate with other managing producers on delivery of content for shared initiatives.
    • Understand and manage to performance-based metrics for hub and individual employees.
    • Manage day-to-day functional relationships with freelancers and community contributors, such as assigning work, monitoring submissions, arranging photos, editing content and accounting for content in budgeting system.
    • Assume roles and responsibilities of Manager in his/her absence.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Requirements
    • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications or a related field required
    • Minimum of five - seven years of professional experience in developing and directing web-related projects/programs required
    • Minimum of three – five years of management and/or team leadership experience required
    • Experience working with video and social networking functionality / technology is highly desirable
    • Self starter, very detailed oriented and have the ability to multi-task, meet deadlines and manage multiple complex projects to on-time delivery
    • Strong passion and understanding of professional, college, and high school sports
    • Successful experience leading multi-disciplinary teams
    • Solid track record of successfully developing projects through launch
    • Experience creating interactive metrics reports and analyzing their implications
    • Working collaboratively to develop measurement methods, ability to align product offerings with audience
    • Understanding of the methods and tools used to deliver content across a variety of platforms and ability to create efficiencies in the system to aid in content development and collection
    • Mastery of social media and digital interaction
    • Ability to leverage the relationship between technology and customer data and insight to create engaging, interactive and optimized product offerings
    • Understanding of the methods and tools used to deliver content across a variety of platforms
    • Ability to develop news and opinion content that differentiates the organization from competitors
    • Ability to create and implement strategies to respond to the evolving nature of the industry by experimenting with new models, platforms and ideas to stimulate audience engagement and revenue generation/growth
