So, because a player gets more rest from his manager, that means he doesn't make it?

    Navarro: .318 avg. .370 OBP, .435 slugging

    Pierzynski: .299 avg. .338 OBP, .447 slugging

Also Navarro is a far superior defensive player: Navarro has thrown out 39% of runners this season in 41 opportunities. Pierzynski has 17%, in 74 opportunities.

I think I know which catcher AL managers like to try and run on.

    Yes - Jose Contreras.

There's more to defensive catching than just throwing out would-be base stealers. The White Sox lead the American League in ERA, and Pierzynski saves a ton of balls in the dirt.

Also, Pierzynski 7 HRs, Navarro 4

    Pierzynski 20 2Bs, Navarro 14

They may very well end up going with Navarro, but I think Pierzynski's longer track record, the White Sox's team ERA and the fact that he's more of an everyday guy will get him the nod, ultimately.

I noted Pierzynski's better hitting for power in the slugging percentage stat. And Navarro is still only .012 behind him in that.

Navarro has the second-best batting average and on-base percentage of any catcher in the AL, and should be going.

But do you think he will? That's what I'm trying to do - nail who they will pick, not who I think they should pick. If it was who I felt should go, John Danks and his ERA and C.C. Sabathia and his SOs would find a spot. But I know there's a wins bias when it comes to tobacco-chewin' baseball men.

Also - the Chicago Tribune says today that it's going to be Carlos Marmol over Carlos Zambrano, which is a bit of a joke considering Marmol's implosion over the last month.

I wonder if Derrek Lee will at least make a reserve spot. He's been hot as of late and has decent numbers.

There's just no place for him. The Padres suckitude hurts him, because they absolutely have to take Adrian Gonzalez.

    Selected AL Lineup:

    C: Joe Mauer
    1B: Kevin Youkilis
    2B: Dustin Pedroia
    3B: Alex Rodriguez
    SS: Derek Jeter
    OF: Manny Ramirez
    OF: Ichiro Suzuki
    OF: Josh Hamilton
    DH: David Ortiz

  8. Re: MLB All-Star teams (prediction)

Ortiz is out. I'll predict Upton replaces him.

    Wow. Seven Cubs.

Terrible job by the National League selecting these reserves.
