    Say what you want, but it's the correct call.

    The batter is out the split second he hit the infield fly.

    The offense must always avoid the defensive player attempting to field a batted ball.

    The runner's lack of awareness or lack of rules knowledge is not an umpiring problem.

    This is not the first time this has happened in MLB, and won't be the last.

    Kudos to the umpiring crew for getting it right (or does that not apply when plauers or fans or sportswriters don't know the rules)

    Word for word, and apply it to golf. The amount of people bitching about players getting free relief when they don't know the rules is pretty maddening. Appreciate your explanation of this.

    Austin Riley hasn't played since May 12 due to an intercostal strain, but the Braves still haven't put him on the IL. Since he just started swinging a bat again Wednesday, I doubt he will be back tonight. On the other hand, A.J. Smith-Shawver was called up to make a start yesterday, then went on the 15-day IL today with a left oblique strain. It's just a funny game.

    There was that Giants-Cubs game about 10 years ago the Giants protested - and won - after the Cubs' tarp crew totally botched the job.

    White Sox: MLB questions ump's game-ending call

    Rule 6.01(a) seems to support that: "A runner who is adjudged to have hindered a fielder who is attempting to make a play on a batted ball is out whether it was intentional or not."

    However, MLB reached out to the White Sox after the game to say that the umpires do have discretion on that play and that interference didn't have to be called, the team confirmed on Friday.
