    Harper to Phillies
Boras found someone to bid against themselves.

Phillies had an incentive to bid against themselves. They promised fans they'd freewheel in this market. Had to do it. Look, overspending is a factor of hindsight. Back when he was a free agent, there was no market for Manny Ramirez one day, and then the Red Sox gave him 8 for 160, when there was talk he might not get an offer at all, let alone what was then a real big deal. In the event, it was money well spent.

Also the owners colluded and agreed it would be Philly's turn to sign one.

Phillies were planning on spending big bucks on either Harper or Machado from the very beginning. We don't know how big of bucks they have spent, though. Maybe they wound up with what they think is a deal.

There's no way Boras lets anything happen where the narrative is that the team got a deal, in Harper's case

Cleveland Indians ownership: The only group that would have a core of Lindor, Ramirez, Kluber, Carrasco, Bauer and Brad Hand with two years left in their championship window and decide to slash payroll and leave gaping holes in its roster.

It's not just in New York where a Dolan needs to sell a sports franchise.

If Harper announces where he's going via the video game cover, that may go down as one of the stupidest things I've ever seen.

Someone tell ownership there's already a team in Miami, and it's mostly struggled there.
