It was perfect game, so it's OBP + the possibility of an error, not BA.

Sorry, Rick. There's little doubt in MY mind.

The inning was about 25 minutes long. A pitching change. A lot of baserunners. And Ryu does a full dash to first and makes his way around the bases. Yeah, I think that had significant effect on what followed.

I know. I was simplifying just to use BA.

But when you're talking about OBP+ROE, the chances of finishing it off drop to 10 percent or below.

Yeah, but so what? That's baseball.

A pitcher doesn't "deserve" a no-hitter just because he's six or nine outs away. Baseball is a game of breaks. And the breaks go against plenty of line drives, too.

A 25-minute 8th inning is unusual in the grand scheme of things so yes it had a little bit of an effect on Ryu's rhythm.

Two points to Cincy's manager for changing the pace of things.

Well, yeah. It is baseball. Just saying that's what happened.

    Timely reference.

Should have said Dan Uggla ... or BJ Upton ... or virtually any Atlanta Braves player.

Surprised to see Mejia in the 8th.

6 out save? Think Collins thinks his job is on the line?

If it is, it would be a little ridiculous. Think more that since Mejia was a starter maybe he thinks he can use him more often for 6 outs. Plus he probably is glad he doesn't have to go to Farnsworth or Valverde. Wonder if the Wilpons are going to see if Armando Benitez still wants to close.
