    Man or Astro-Man.

Not really from outer space. But they loved to crank out surf rock back in the day ...

The name of the Scottish band Frightened Rabbit sounds like a goth outfit. But no, they were very guitar-y ... and extremely Scottish.

    Echo and the Bunnymen.

From the name, they sound like they should be terrible. They're not.

The Paper Chase, a dark, noisy, avant-garde (some would probably say creepy) band which shares its name with the 1970s novel and film about law school.

Dogs Die in Hot Cars, which has a more sinister insinuation than any of their straight-ahead rock would indicate.

Sorry for the bump but I'm streaming a Brit indie station that's crawling with these band names.

Eagles of Death Metal ... pretty straight indie rock.

Same for ... And They Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead, an Austin outfit.

Panic at the Disco ... (not disco)
Arcade Fire ... (not gothic or industrial; still mostly awesome)
Franz Ferdinand ... (spoiler alert: it’s not him)
