Anguishing over which sunglasses to purchase isn't a midlife crisis.

Anguishing over which reading glasses to purchase is.

FWIW, I will never, ever do the half-glasses thing. Nothing screams "old!" quite like that look.

well, joe.. when you can see far away, but not close up and you need help close up, but you have to adjust your vision quickly to far away... then the half glasses make sense.

"Seeing is the important thing, son."

    "It's not that important."

I know, I know. Vanity be damned. Not saying I'm being rational.

I do know that I was elated when I stumbled across bifocal reading glasses. That is, they have the correction in the bottom half of the lens but clear glass in the top half. They give you the full frame look -- even cool aviators -- and allow you to see close and far without putting full-frame readers on and off constantly.

  5. Because I wear prescription lenses and have a strange prescription to boot, I usually pay big bucks for really cool-looking sunglasses and get used to wearing them all the time. I actually had them on for half of a Star Wars movie before I realized it. I've been through all the styles too, aviators, the Steve McQueen oversized, wraparounds, etc. Current fave is a great-looking Vogue frame.

It's about the best thing in our health plan, the vision coverage.

    I was thinking it was about a five-year range: 32-33 to 37-38.
It's over by the time you hit 40.
    It's all over.

    Bubs,
I still have a pair of Ray-Ban Aviator glasses around here somewhere... they're yours for free (plus shipping and handling).

I'm on the other side of that argument -- the more expensive my sunglasses, the less likely I am to lose them, leave them in a hotel room, sit on them or otherwise break them. When you spend $100 or more on sunglasses, you tend to take better care of them.

And you can't beat polarized lenses.

    No need for crisis.
You will die, and it's getting closer.
    Embrase it.

Because unlike Joe and the rest of us, this never gets old:

You need to try the Costa 580 lens. It's flat amazing.
