It means they're petty and ineffectual.
We already knew that from the LeBron James episodes.

Sheeeiittt, that's nothing. A team in South Carolina had a win taken away because an ineligible player suited up for a game. He didn't even get in the game.

What about the kid from Nebraska who forced them to forfeit all the wins leading up to the Orange Bowl that one year? Omar Soto or something.

It all depends on who the player is, how Michigan handles it, etc. If they self-report and self-sanction, the NCAA will be lenient and probably won't take away the win.

Indiana State's only win in the last three years was last season and it was in jeopardy when it was discovered they used an ineligible player, he had taken part on special teams coverage once.

ISU did its mea culpa and the NCAA was merciful, they were allowed to keep the win, but the school was fined and the (now ex-)coach was suspended a game.

Had the NCAA ruled otherwise, the nation's longest losing streak would have been alive and kicking somewhere in the 30s by now.

It is a BIG TEN violation, not an NCAA violation.

If the NCAA had a say, given the harsh penalties it handed the Wolverines over Ed Martin, ::) PENN STATE would be penalized for Michigan's mistake.

Michigan won't have to forfeit the game. It's only an option being thrown around in the media. The fact of the matter is that the guy was cleared by the NCAA, but apparently not by the Big 10's eligibility rules. The player in question was a true freshman who arrived on campus in the spring, went through spring practice and played sparingly in the first four games.

Michigan maintains that they were following the rules, but allegedly the rules have been updated recently and Michigan was still applying the old rule. People I know close to Michigan are saying that they'll likely receive a fine. It's not a big infraction, they didn't circumvent the rules.

It's Michigan. The Big Televen home office will overlook this and give them a slap on the wrist.
