    You open your very first press conference like that, you answer questions in that way on the first day . . . . you had better engineer a Pete Carroll at USC-type quick and decisive turnaround, with the same lasting results. (Yes, I know Carroll had some first-year struggles, but a national title share in Year Three?)

    Because you're standing up and asking the vultures to lie in wait. If even Bobby Knight lost his right to be a jerk after he stopped winning big, it can happen to any coach. Especially one who surrounds the best recruit in the country with a bad offense.
