So, having lived around Cuban expats for 20 years, a thought. Many who fled the revolution were white Hispanics, often people who were pro Bautista, and had their lands and money seized. But Cuba, once a hub in the slave industry, has many Cuban-Africans. Yet, you rarely run to Cubans of African descent in Florida.

White Americans aren't the only racists in the world.

    Armando is full of shit.

And a non-response from the Herald editor ...

Miami Herald publisher and executive editor Mindy Marques tells New Times that Salguero's opinions "do not reflect the views of the Miami Herald."

"The right to free expression and a free press are foundational to our democracy," she said in an email. "Armando Salguero is a Miami Herald sports columnist and unlike reporters, columnists have broad latitude to express their opinions."

I agree with her, but it’s also a cop-out of sorts. The compromise was discarded long ago because it’s wrong. Like the Holocaust was. If he’d said he favored concentration camps, he’d be gone.

Yeah, I don't think he's getting any great traffic boost by showing he's wildly ignorant about American history. Not really how it works.

Miami Herald Censors Writer's Podcast Addressing Salguero Controversy

After the debacle unfolded, Greg Cote, himself a Heraldsportswriter, recorded an episode for his Herald podcast that included commentary about the situation. But before the episode was released Monday morning, those six minutes of the show were cut out by the paper's management.

"They just quashed the part of the podcast that included the controversy," Cote tells New Times. He explains that he devoted pod-time to the matter because he felt it was newsworthy. "I thought it was important not only because it's a big issue in the Herald, but it mirrored what we're going through in our nation."

Yesterday, Cote tweeted that the Herald had chosen "censorship over transparency" on the subject.

Should make a good Dan LeBatard show on Tuesday when Cote usually appears.
