Mets/Yanks Ump Blows Call

    Absolutely. There's no excuse for Davidson to act the way he did.

    I blew a call during a game when I ejected a kid, saying he maliciously slid into the catcher. At one point, I finally said, "I blew it." As soon as I said those words, the coaches who were arguing the call immediately calmed down. After the game, they made it clear there were no hard feelings.

    If Davidson had simply said, "I blew the call. No one feels worse about that than I do," I don't think many people would have a problem with that. I know from my own experience that admitting your mistakes can actually endear you to people. What Davidson did was make himself look worse by the way he admitted to blowing the call.
