For four years? And why does that make it OK?

These days most readers would prefer Page Six and the Enquirer to Woodstein. Deadspin isn't trying to win a Pulitzer.

And was probably always the case. But don't say that political reporters should try to ape Deadspin.

  4. Right. And this doesn't make Daulerio a sports guy. It makes him a sleazy, irresponsible gossip-pusher. Not sure why that should be something we want more of, instead of less.

Sure, people have always wanted this crap. We used to recognize it's not always best to give them everything they want, because we were professionals who used our experience to make judgment calls that were responsible.

They want porn, too. Of course, if you click on most major media outlets, we're getting close to giving them that as well, with all the WAGs and other crap that drive hits.

If we have Deadspin for sports and TMZ, Perez Hilton and Radar Online for entertainment, what are the equivalent sites for politics (not counting MSNBC, CNN and Fox News (Ha ha).

Yes, it's sleazy and lowbrow, no question. but doesn't anyone in sanchez's position have to be smarter about this stuff? yet i don't see this having legs, unless she's knocked up or he gave her an std...

all the guy's gotta do to get past this is to start dating women his own age and keep winning football games. i don't think folks in noo yawk are gonna be as put off by this as they might in other markets. then again, those smaller markets can be very protective of their own...

I'd have to say Drudge...didn't it break most of the stuff during Clinton-Lewinksy?

Deadspin has become the web equivalent of stuff scrawled on a bathroom wall.

Then we're in agreement. This is the kid of stuff Daulerio reports, and I'm not going to slam or defend him for it.

He crosses an ethical line, to me, by hyping up stories to ferret out sources. There's gotta be a justifiable end to those means. The Farve story is one I flip-flop on all the time, but I think this one is definitely not worth such tactics.

And even in the realm of sports, I think Daulerio's tenacity could dig up something much more substantial than this. But he and Deadspin, they are what they are.
