Fox Sports Southwest reports Cuban has thrown in the towel. G-n-R wins.

Cuban, by the way, owns a lot of the Rangers debt, I learned today. So he'll make money no matter what.

Kinda shady of him to drive up the bidding so he makes more money on the back end, in my opinion. But that's Cubes.

Not to get all Dudley Do-Right and all, but is it ethical?

It's ethical, FB. After all, the principal ethic of bankruptcy is that the creditors should be compensated as much as possible. Besides, what if he'd won? Then Cuban would essentially be eating the money as part of the purchase price.

Taking this to the Supreme Court would make him real popular at owner's meetings.

Is it ethical to not be paid moneys that are owed to you?

I really can't see why it would be unethical.

OK, so let's say Cuban has privileged info (not available to John Q. Public) that Tom Hicks is on the rocks. So Cuban buys a substantial piece of Hicks' debt at pennies on the dollar knowing full well Hicks will have to sell a chunk of his financial empire. Isn't that insider trading?

There isn't a damn thing here that's ethical. This is a bunch of self-centered, self-serving, greedy bastards playing a board game. Tom Hicks is a jackass and for Rangers fans, the only good that has come out of this is that he's gone, without his desired owner emeritus or whatever the hell title he wanted.

Say what you want about GWB, but here's a contrast between he and Hicks. Bush sat amongst the people, in the heat. Tom Hicks not only made regular use of the owner's suite, but he had a private entrance from the street that kept him away from crowds.
