His book on this topic earned a harsh review in The New York Times Book Review: http://nyti.ms/17nf5kf

Well, he's certainly not the first to discuss the David-and-Goliath aspect of David being super skilled with a sling.

I'd heard it first from Vernon McGee, in his "Through the Bible" series, which was recorded around the time of the Vietnam War.

Maybe Gladwell lost points for non-creativity.

David was getting a signal from somebody in the Philistines' tent.

So David was the first guy to thank God for a big athletic victory when in reality it was just talent?

Gladwell has lost his damn mind.
Before he was just a salesman of intellectual snake oil, but now the guy is out of his tree.

Interesting, but unfortunately, Gladwell leaves out a key fact. The Philistines pushed poor, blind Goliath out there because the rest of them were too busy reading, discussing philosophy and visiting the local museums and art galleries.

David used to bullseye womp rats back home. No biggie.

To be fair, Goliath had mastered being a DH.

But Goliath was much bigger than two meters

People tend to forget he was among the top prospects at the time. He had good tools but he got downgraded a bit because of his size. Little doubt he had a plus arm, plus speed and decent range, though.

Goliath was an athletic freak, but David was scrappy.
