Here's the green band trailer: http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1810105591/video/17720239

It has a few different cuts, but definitely isn't able to get as much across. I think the whole point of making the movie - if I remember correctly from when Forte was first talking about it - was that they wanted to make sure it was an easy R. That said, I can imagine it being hard to pick out some really good stuff that's appropriate for mass audiences.

Either way, I'm still interested. I've always liked Forte. If you enjoy his style of humor, Brothers Solomon is pretty funny. Kristin Wiig is also in that movie, as is Will Arnett and Chi McBride. It got lousy reviews, but that brand of humor just isn't for everyone.

Scanning the cast on IMDB, I see 5 pro wrestlers in this - Kane, Big Show, Great Khali, Mark Henry, and our paragon of virtue, Chris Jericho. Would make a hell of a Survivor Series team, at least.

I don't know why people don't know when to stop. I do like the MacGruber sketches, but this is ridiculous.

The first reviews are in! And it's not terrible! And it's not particularly good, either: http://www.slashfilm.com/2010/03/16/early-buzz-macgruber-premieres-at-sxsw/

Doesn't sound like this will be a flop, will definitely make its money back in box office sales. It cost $10 million to make. Universal decided to push it back to May 21 to go up against the next Shrek movie, so it will definitely offer the counter to family-friendly options.

Cross-thread promotion from 2010 summer movie discussion to give this a bump:

Only a couple weeks away and it only has positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes (granted, it's only seven): http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/macGruber/

The MacGruber character had a tremendous Twitter feed. Here: http://twitter.com/Grubes69

    One of the best:

Tough day. Had to take Ferret Bueller to the vet cuz her litter was going breach. She aborted like a champ :(

    Thought I'd start this off....

Got free tickets to see an "advanced" screening last night. Laughed harder and more often than I thought I would. If you like Will Forte, you will like this movie.

For those concerned about the idea of turning the sketch into a movie, only the final scene mirrors the SNL sketch. The rest is pretty solid parody of 80s action. Don't set the bar high, but there are worse ways to spend 84 minutes.

I originally thought this was going to be a horrible, horrible movie on the level of "It's Pat." From the trailers I've seen and some clips from the interview shows... I gotta say, I'll probably see it. It does look funny.

My only complaint: I read there's no cameo by Richard Dean Anderson, which I think you absolutely need. He doesn't need to be a main character - hell, he doesn't even have to speak. Just have him pass MacGruber on the street, stop, look and shake his head. Missed opp.

It's because he was busy with his movie pitch: http://www.digitaljournal.com/article/292325

SPOILER ALERT: There is a fantastic head skaking/nodding montage without Richard Dean Anderson.
